All as usuall, MS provides an SDK but does not use it by itself...
So, I saw a few frases concerning WM ASF reader mp3 supporting, something
like folowing:
The key features of the Windows Media Format SDK are:
a.. Support for reading and editing metadata in MP3 files. This SDK provides
integrated support for reading MP3 files with the same methods used to read
ASF files. Applications built with the Windows Media Format SDK can also
edit metadata attributes in MP3 files using built-in support for the most
common ID3 tags used by content creators.
Reader Object
The reader object reads data samples from media files. The reader object
currently supports files using the advanced systems format (ASF) file
structure as well as MP3 files.
It should means WM ASF reader has to support MP3, does not it?
Does MS suggest to use WM ASF Reader instead of MPEG-1 parser somewhere in
any SKD?
If not, can you share with your experience concerning this question if any?

Recently I noticed some difference between
playback/seekeng behaviour of a DirectShow graph with
MPEG-1 splitter and Windows Media player 10. Also I noticed that WM ASF
Reader Filter supports MP3
files as a source+splitter.
As a result of this points my question is whether WMP
player uses MPEG-1 splitter for mp3 files playback.
I think it uses the MP3 parser in WMF, which was hacked into WMF just to
support WMP. However WMP does not use the WMASFReader wrapper for WMF but
a private one. The MP3 parser in WMF is newer and generically better than
the old MPEG-1 splitter.
