RE: duration problem in WM 11

I have opened a support ticket with Microsoft on this issue. I am currently
of the opinion that this is a bug in WM 11. At the very least, WM 11 should
be backward compatible with 10, where this is not a problem. I'll let you
know what they say once I hear back from them.

I encounter the same problem. WM11 seems to ignore the <DURATION> element if.
the media file is larger than 30 min. This is a huge problem for me as I deal
with multi-hour files all the time. Can anyone think of a work around?

I have confirmed that the problem occurs if the file is longer than 30
minutes.

As it so happens, file 1 was about 22 minutes long. File 2 is 54 minutes
long. Using an editor, a media friend of mine cut the file down to 20
minutes, and it worked fine.
Is there a bug in WMP 11 relating to the length of the file?

I have a problem with the duration parameter used in ASX files. Here's a
stripped down version of an ASX that demonstrates the problem. For testing
purposes, I've placed all the files locally on my desktop.
<asx version="3.0">
<entry>
<duration value="02:00"/>
<ref href="30704_WM9.wmv"/>
</entry>
<entry>
<duration value="02:00"/>
<ref href="32218.wmv"/>
</entry>
</asx>
File 1 should play for 2 minutes and stop. Then, File 2 should play for 2
minutes.
What really happens: File 1 plays for 2 minutes. File 2 plays to the end.
Now, I don't need to play both files. I am just doing that to help debug
this problem. If I only put in an entry for File 2, it still plays to the
end.
When the problem file is playing, it shows it as only 2:00 long. The status
bar goes right up to the end. However, it just keeps on playing.
This problem has never occurred for us when using WMP version 10. This
problem only started occurring when using version 11. If I click the ASX
file in 10, it works perfectly. On a computer with 11, it fails to stop.
I cannot determine if this is a problem with WMP 11, or just certain files.
We've randomly spot checked our preview clips, and this problem is occurring
for about 1 out of every 5 files so far.
