In other words, if my client takes 5 seconds to start receiving video (which
I can live with), all of the video that client shows continues to be 5
seconds behind, which I find 'difficult' to live with ;).
If it's realtime video, you're SOL since there's no way to "catch up"
without skipping forward (which you can't do on live streams ;-))
There are techniques such as Fast Start, where the media server
streams forward to the player using 'spare' bandwidth on the player
end, which would reduce any pre-set buffering time proportionately.
Read about Fast Start in the second link I posted.
Is there some way to skip ahead to frames that are waiting to be
decompressed? Can I trick it by fast forwarding (LOL!)? Changing the
playback speed?
As above, and see answers to your previous post.
