Can I adjust the default brightness levels to a brighter notch?

When I start a clip in Windows Media Player 9.x the base brightness or default brightness level is almost always too dim, and I find that everytime I start a clip, I have to mouse over to the Video Control | Brightness adjustment and drag the slider over to increase brightness to around the 15 or 20 mark. My monitor is set bright enough to keep the blacks looking black - just before the blacks start to light up to greyer shades - I mean I want something that's black to look black, and I use my video driver controls or some application to adjust the overall monitor brightness. My video card has a gamma setting and I even slid that up a notch to kick my over-overall brightness up, but invariably whenever I start the Media Player, I ALWAYS have to bump the brightness. I just leave the Show Video Controls up so I can get to the brightness adjustment, and that's just what I am used to.
Is there a setting in some .INI file or registry where I can fix the baseline brightness level or gain so that everytime I start Media Player it's already increased for me?
See, I did do some homework and I found:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Plugins\{1677BD28-D0D8-11D2-83B5-00C04F8EDCC4}
.. with all four Video Controls with DWORD values all set to ( 0 ) . Can I increase these values to solve the problem?
Thank you in advance.
Tom
