Re: Windows Media Player (11) is not installed properly. Reinstall

Is there a document that covers rebuilding the system catalog databse? I
have been hunting for a fix for this issue for weeks.
sfc /scannow is a waste of time for this issue as is
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891664. I have seen it posted on almost
every forum but I have yet to see it actually fix this issue.
This very same issue has hundreds of posts across the internet. The only
common software other than windows is Internet Explorer 8 having been
installed on the system at least once.
Personally, I wish I could get rid of Internet Explorer 8, it was the
biggest mistake Microsoft ever made.

You can potentially try to rebuild the system catalog database and reinstall
WMP, but otherwise the next step would probably be a (format and) reinstall
since you need to rebuild the system catalog store.

Before seeing your last post, I reinstalled windows SP3.
I had to Reset the registry and the file permissions with the Subinacl.exe
file. Then I was able to install Win XP SP3.
But when I opened WMP, I got the same message as you get on running "sfc/
scannow", that some protected files have unrecognized versions. It asks
for
the SP3 setup disk.
I made a copy of the setup file that I had downloaded, but the system
still
says that the CD is incorrect.
Format and reinstall? :=(

I'd run "sfc /scannow" first myself. =)

Thank you for your input.
I understand that since I have Win XP, "You should be able to solve
this
through a reinstall of Windows" is what you refer to.

You do not need to update DRM here.

Your system is corrupt by the mechanism WMP is testing with. The
previous
page of mine that Neil correctly pointed you to is the ONLY thing you
wanted
to look. Everything else is just distracting you.

What happens when you followed the step I suggested?

Still do not get anywhere.
I am using Mozilla Firefox. I do not know if that would affect the
results
of the page to update DMR, but it is not available to me.

The registry adjustments were permissions.
What I am finding is that I can play everything except Licensed
media.

If you close both WMP and all your browser windows, then open a
single
instance of Internet Explorer and go to this page :

http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp

Is the button there available to be clicked ? Changing hardware
(network card, hard disk, CPU etc) in the PC can cause the PC's
individualisation for DRM licensed media to become invalid.

If you can't click the button or it causes an error, reset your DRM
system as per the detailed instructions here :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891664

I do not understand the kb307545.

That KB refers to windows XP not starting.
It doesn't sound to be relevant here...

I ran the tool. I am unable to copy the whole file to here.

"Registry adjustments"..Youre problem(s) most likely are in
the
registry...
You might try readjusting the settings you changed,or try
kb307545
Also, download & run WMDiag from microsoft..

After working through the problems with my registry to finally
be
able to
install WMP 11 and using it without problems for a couple of
weeks,
I now get
the message "Windows Media Player is not installed properly.
Reinstall the
Player."
I reinstalled and still got the same message.
I tried uninstall which rolls back to the previous installed,
(for
me ver.
9), but it also gave the same message.
I uninstalled again (The uninstall still said Windows Media
Player
11),
reinstalled and get the same.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
