NEW Computer low on memory error in WMP

Just thought I'd post this more recently.
The last two posters ("Lango" and me) both have HP machines (I have one
laptop, one desktop) that have stopped running .wmv email attachments. We
get the "Your computer is running low on memory" error.
Is it an HP update gone wrong?
Is it a Vista update gone wrong?
My computer's memory is fine, thanks. I think it's a software glitch.
Anybody have any ideas?
Yes, I've looked on the HP forums.
Thanks!
Lango - That sounds like dittos all around for me. It's been about the same
amount of time that both of my HP machines stopped running .wmv email
attachments.
Could it be an HP update? Or Windows Vista?
I don't even know how to check or un-do what's been done

To provide additional detail: My low memory problem started around 6-11-09
after I ran 13 updates (all successful). I'm running Windows Vista Home
Premium - Service Pack 2, on a HP dv6500 notebook, with 2.00 GB memory, and
T5250 Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1.50GHz each. My physical memory utilization runs at
57% to 60%. Seems like I have sufficient memory, but .wmv won't run when it
is an email attachment... I just get the low memory error.

So, see Zach? I don't think that it's related to a video card issue. Too
many people are having the same problem. I think Media Player got corrupted
or zapped with an update.
So when/where's the correction update? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Add me to the list of people getting "Computer Low on Memory" while using
Windows Media Player 11. I noticed this about 10 days ago. This happens to
me when I play wav files. The first file will play but subsequent files will
generate the memory problem. If I go back to the original file, it plays
just fine.

I am having the same problem with .wmv from email. Seems to go back to
when I
ran the "Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB967632).
Prior to that there was no problem.

WMDiag/DxDiag wouldn't necessarily detect a large class of potential
issues.
I don't know the commonalities between these two systems. I was pointing
out a probably good spot to look into. It might not pan out, but it
doesn't
seem like a bad plan to check for updated video card drivers from the
video
card vendor. That potentially can benefit the system regardless.

Since I have two machines with the problem and one's a laptop and one's
a
PC
I'm thinking it's not a video card problem that simultaneously went
kablowy
on both systems.
I think it's a Vista update that created the problem. Still don't know
how
to fix it though.
I just ran WMDiag and DXDIAG and it found nothing.
Maybe I'll just give up on MS and use Quicktime. This is nuts.

What video card is on the system? Is there a video card driver update
available?
WMV and AVI play back slightly differently, so the first common point
is
probably the video card driver.

MP3 & WMA files seem to play. What won't play is any .avi or .wmv
file
that
comes as an attachment on an email. And this is happening on two
different
machines in two different locations on two different networks.
What changed? Probably Windows updates. And that's probably what
the
two
machines have in common besides running Vista.

Do WMA files work? Do MP3 files work?
What changed before this broke?

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I get the notice when I try to see a
.wmv
file
and Windows Media Player launches. Every time.

... quit all programs and start again.Post in a Vista forum, this is WMP. Good luck.
My two Vista machines started giving that error message a few
weeks
ago
at
about the same time. Not located together or on the same
network.
I've searched everywhere I know of: online, in MS, and while
the
problem
has been posed, I've seen no fixes.
Please help!
thanks
