Perhaps the easiest way (though it'll cost up to $75) is to purchase a
small external hard disk, which you connect with a USB cable.
250GB should be more than enough for all your music and photos, and
WMP can still use that as long as it's connected, as well as freeing
up your PC's internal disk space
For example, this is a nice size and colour (though overpriced) :

If you're looking to CD or DVDs that's nice to do and really it's just
a file copy operation - but you'd need to consider a CD burning
program like Nero to do DVDs as backups which makes the best use of
your time - you can burn a DVD containing say 800 tracks as a backup,
in about 12 minutes.
CDs can hold "only" about 100 or so tracks but WMP can burn those as
Data CD. You'd have to create a burn list of all your tracks, and
WMP11 will span those disks - what that means is it'll ask you to
insert a new CD every 100 or so tracks, and it'll take longer.
