Argh! That didn't work either. I'll keep reading newsgroups but if you find.
something please post.

I suppose the only last thing I can try is to defintely supply the
path to regsvr32 to make sure it's looking in the right place for the
file :
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\ac3filter.ax
If that doesn't work I'm afraid I'm out of ideas - that should just
cleanly register, and I can't think why it won't work for you.

Still have an issue...I'm typically pretty savvy with computers but you sure------------------------------------------------
wouldn't know it. These DVD's work in Nero Showtime, and the video portion
still works great in WMP11...these files also worked just fine in WMP10. So,
with that said... I copied ac3filter.ax to the windows/system32 directory
(and verified it was there) and tried the following command:
run regsvr32 ac3filter.ax
I get the following error:
LoadLibrary ("ac3filter.ax") failed - The specified module could not be
found.

Oh, I didn't realise the filter name was changed.
Try regsvr32.dll on the ac3filter.ax file instead (instructions as
before but with the different filename)
Sorry for any confusion.

I guess I have two issues.------------------------------------------------
AC3 Filter:
Didn't find a second copy. Uninstalled and reinstalled ac3filter_1_46.exe.
There is only one ac3filter.ax....it must be barfing somewhere because I
can't find ac3dx.dll or ac3.dll anywhere to try to throw it into the
windows/system32 directory. Suggestions?
DVD Decoder:
Information is following:
DSHow SW:
Name: NeVideo.ax
Nero AG 4.5.11.0
Prod 2.2.4.4
The decoder checkup indicates I have several decoders (Ahead Nero and Adobe
Mainconcept) but of course none of them are WMP10 compatible - yet they all
worked until I installed WMP11. I also have an older version of PowerDVD by
Cyberlink which says it should work for most things. When I select that to
be the default I can't get WMP to use that codec. I select and try to play
something or even reboot and replay and it goes back to Nero codec. ??

I've never heard of that failing before, perhaps there's another copy
of Ac3Dx.ax installed which is interfering.
Use windows explorer Search to find files called ac3*.*
See if any other copies turn up.
You should be able to register the geniune one (the most recently
added by file date) by moving it to C:\Windows\System32
Then go to Start -> Run and type in
regsvr32 Ac3Dx.dll
Press enter and see if you get a 'success' message.
Out of interest, what does DecCheck say is the installed DVD *video*
decoder ? It could be linked to your issue :

I have the same issue. Installed said audio filter and still no success.------------------------------------------------
Rebooted, etc. In settings I make AC3 use for ALL PCM, DVD, etc. Is there
another step to make WM11 use this filter??

Major problem with Media Player 11
When playing dvd's picture is there but no sound. If I use Power DVD
everything is okay
This is a clean install of vista home premium and all drivers etc are
working ok. No problems on music play pack
Somehow you're missing an "AC3 audio filter" : Download one here
