The song titles can be written to a CD as CD-Text, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-Text for more information. WMP doesn't
have built-in support for either writing or reading CD-Text, but the
WMPCDText plug-in allows WMP to read CD-Text:

To write CD-Text information to a CD, you will have to use a different
program for burning CD's that is capable of doing this, like Nero
Burning Rom or Burrrn.
