Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

This works perfectly for me and many zillion others. The implication there
is that there is something unique about your configuration - and any zillion
others who run into this. =\

You are very specifically running into an error where the DVD copy
protection chain between the DVD drive->player->DVD decoder->video
card->monitor isn't validating.

So: what version of Vista?
What "MPEG filters" are listed under WMP's Help:About:Technical Support
Information menu tool?
What video card do you have?
What video card driver do you have?
How is the PC hooked up the monitor?

I'm sure if you worked with actual support, those people would have more
information upon this subject. The newsgroups are absolutely not reliable
nor a support channel. Sometimes people get lucky and find good
information, but that doesn't mean it can help everyone. =)

jweier111, I am not trying to defend the guy who went off about the
problem
he is having with windows media player but, in all honesty, you did not
really fix the problem. You merely ignored the problem and found a way
around
it using an other program. I have been working on this error now for
sometime
over the last week because some how and some way it started to appear on
my
comp. and has really started to aggitate me to no end. Windows does not
offer
a fix, did not offer a fix in their SP2 for Vista, and there is no
solution
presented anywhere by anyone. The only solutions presented are work
arounds.
It seems to me that microsoft wants you to either find another player or
another system all together because they don't appear to want to off any
assistance or information that could be helpful. What is interesting is
that
this error did not appear until after I had updated all driver and
firmware
on my system. I am so angry right now because the only solution possible
to
get Windows Media Player back and running is to wipe my machine clean and
start over. You have no idea how much of a problem this is considering I
have
over 200 gigs in high-end software that I would be forced to re-install. I
might as well put a bullet through my head.

Step 1: Uninstall ALL media software, with the exception of Media
Player 11. AND I MEAN ALL, Nero, Power DVD, K-lite Mega Codec Pack.

Step 2:Follow ALL of the instructions found at the link
bellow:http://msmvps.com/blogs/chrisl/articles/11496.aspx

Yes I know it's crappy to have to buy a DVD program...that's why Media
Player Classic is free and open source! Google it, or pull it down from
sourceforge....

And last but not least you obnoxious little parasite, if you have a
question ask it, but don't go from thread to thread kicking and
screaming like a fit throwing 2 year old just because you can't get an
answer "dumbed" down enough for you to understand. We're here to help
people with their computers not get kicked around by someone who
doesn't want to take the time to learn how and why his system is
Jacked. This problem literally took me about 15 min to fix on my
brothers computer with just a little reading.

Apologies to the rest of the thread...I've seen "Help Me Fix This
Problem" post in like 10 threads while researching this issue, everyone
it's the same bunch of abusive ME ME ME ME crap.

So there you go kid you've got your answer, rest assured if it doesn't
work you screwed something else up royally and are soon to learn the
fun of reinstalling Windows (as that's your only other option). Now
for the sake of everyone on TechArena's blood pressure, find somewhere
else to post, or get a $20 DVD player from Walmart.
