Well the three check boxes are all checked. The "Streaming Proxy Settings"
box is completely empty. The "allow multicast streams" box is checked

Up until a few days ago I have been watching a couple of live webcams without
any problems. Suddenly I am getting a blank screen and when I check for
errors I get this message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because
the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL
dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or
"rtsp:"). I have checked everything that I can think of and all the settings
seem o.k. Can anyone think what I have done wrong?

Hmm. Go to any of the small dropdown menus below the WM tabs (for
example below Now Playing). Click More Options, then Network.

My preference is for None (unless you're inside a corporate IT network
- are you ? - it's safe to set to None) - in that case, click e.g.
HTTP then the Configure button and set to None to see if that helps.

If any of those settings are greyed out, post again as there's a WMP
file which sometimes becomes damaged and can be deleted and recreated.
