Re: Player stopped adding anything

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Out of sheer frustration I went to the site and downloaded 11 as if I never
had it. It went through the whole process and never told me I already had
it, nor does a second one show in my files. So it must have put it right
over the one I had. When I opened it my library was full again including
some new songs, but not all the new songs. I determined the ones not mapping
over are the "protected" songs. I burned those songs to a CD and then ripped
them to the library. Now everything seems to be there. Apparantly I'll just
have to do that from now on if I'm purchasing online a protected song. It's
a hassel, but at least the problem is solved. Thanks for all the help and
ideas.

A: Nothing useful.
B: No, it would simply install over the top.
C: Yes (no).
D: No.

If you renamed your WMP library folder after stopping the Network Sharing
Service and things are still broken, it would sound like you would want to
contact actual support.

No matter how many times I do this I'm getting the same results. What
would
happen if I went to the site and clicked on download WMP 11 even though I
already have it? Would it tell me I already have it? Would it download
over
the current one (and perhaps it would work)? Would it put 2 WMP 11's on
my
computer?

If it's still failing, go back to my page and follow those steps - sounds
like the cached db files are still broken.

I went to the link http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary, then I
clicked
the word "here" when it said : The Microsoft KB article for fixing
WMP11
library corruption is here. That took me to Microsoft help and support
and
those directions were:
Exit Windows Media Player.
For Windows XP:

Click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File
menu.

Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.
Restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

But it never rebuilt the database.

How exactly did you do the deleting?

Well, I did all the deleting it said to do and when I reopened the
player
it
was empty and said it was searching for files to add. When it
didn't
add
them automatically I clicked on the click here to add files. It
found
all
my
files and then tells me it's adding them as I'm watching the
progress
bar.
But then it says done - zero files added. It's still empty.

Don't think so, WMP is stable but like most software not 100%

To do the same thing in XP, see the website of Zachd (lot of other
useful
info too)

I do know I haven't exceeded the size allowed but I'm not sure
what
you're

discovered
the
problem. Did I do something I shouldn't have to cause this?

Some time in Feb my player quit adding new music, pics and

It was
doing this automatically and still says its set to add from
those
folders but
it doesn't. Also, I've tried to manually rip a CD and it says
it's
ripping,
but then it isn't there. It's version 11.
