I just created a directory named "codecs" and installed them all from there.
Most are in exe files, so they either install like a program, or install
silently.

Thank you JGreg7,

So all you did was install the files and then it was fixed?

I'm asking because I instelled the codec but Gspot is still saying the file
is missing. Did you have to do anything from within WMP? Or is there a
particular directory I need to install to?

I just searched on "codec acm" and found several places to download them for
free.
The following site has many of them

Sorry to piggyback on this post - but I have the same problem.

Gspot is reporting the following codecs missing:

- - ** Problem ** ** File Missing:
- - Type DSH
- - Function Other
DSH Friendly Name ROXIO InputSelectorNew 3.0
DSH DirectShow CLSID {9B9FEC9D-8F1B-44BF-904D-9A5B666AA9E9}
REG Merit 0x00200000

- - ** Problem ** ** Missing file: ac3filter.acm
- - Type ACM
- - Function Decoder
DSH 4CC Base
REG Driver File ac3filter.acm

Where can I get these codecs?

Thanks!

I installed Windows Media player 11, and am having sound issues with some
files. Some video files of various types will not play the sound, other
files work fine.

The files are ramndom avi, mpg, wmv. I have confirmed they work well on
other computers, so I know the files are good.

Any ideas?

Windows XP, SP3, WMP 11

At least with AVI files you can check to see if the required playback
decoder ("codec") is installed using the GSpot program :
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

If you post back here what it lists for the Audio Codec, we would
probably be able to suggest a way to get those working.

Two fairly common audio codecs which aren't installed in WMP by
default are AAC/AAC+ and AC3 audio (usually known as dolby digital)

If you see those listed in GSpot, holler as there are decent free
third party decoders which work well available for those.
