I can't seem to access windows media player 11 for windows vista?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Whenever I go to the start menu, the icon for windows media player is there,
but when i click on it, the start menu disappears and nothing happens. And
when I want to play any song on windows media player, it doesn't work, or
sometimes a message appears saying operation aborted. I tried uninstalling it
from the control panel but it doesn't appear there...please help!!!
