Re: WMP 11 CD burner doesn't recognise blank disc

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Bingo! I checked for any remenants of Roxio - there were none; so I followed
the instructions for cleaning up the registry. A word of warning to anyone
reading this - DO back up the registry settings - I deleted the two locations
UpperFilters and LowerFilters as instructed but then I-Tunes could not find
the registry settings and would not burn CDs or more importantly, re-install
correctly. Restoring the UpperFilter to it's original setting and blanking
out the LowerFilter fixed the problem. Thanks again Neil for the accurate
advice.

Check a second time in Control Panel for any Roxio icons, as well as
Add/Remove programs just to be sure (it could be a separate install
that didn't get removed)

If that isn't present, it could well be as you said, settings left
over from an unclean install.

This page should contain guided help tyo clean those (registry)
settings http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Good suggestion however I've been through that step too. I had Roxio Creator
9 Suite loaded , saw a similar post, and have removed it entirely from my PC
but it didn't solve the problem. Not putting it back either as it seems to
ignore preferences I set for which programme I want to run DVDs etc. Maybe
some lagacy of having loaded that software originally and the removal not
being clean?

Can't burn discs from WMP 11 as it does not recogise the fact there is a
blank CD in the drive. If I flip to the RIP view, it does detect there is a
blank disc in place in the drive. I can also RIP from the drive OK. I've
tried rolling back to WMP 10 and burning works from there. I reinstalled WMP
11 but still had problem. I've made sure IMAPI CD burning is started (as
recommended in another discussion thread for a similar problem). Burning also
works from iTunes. Anyone have any further suggestions?

If you have any Roxio CD burning software on your CD, also disable the
"Drag to disk" feature - there's often a Roxio icon in the system tray
(the area near the clock) to turn this off with.
