I had exactly the same problem and this person told me to go to this link
and follow the instructions and now it's perfect. Songs start straight away!

Sigmatel audio chipset (sound card) installed, because Dell ship them
with defective audio driver software.
Generally, you'd need to go to the Speaker configuration in windows as
per Zachd's answer in this discussion, to disable audio enhancements :
