I have 1000's of music files from various sources, but since installing
Vista
Ultimate (from scratch) I can't play most of them. I can't find any rhyme
or
reason why some will play and others won't, other than those that I
downloaded from sources like Amazon are more likely to play than those I
ripped. All files played fine on the version of XP Pro with WMP 10 I was
using previous to this. System says I have ALL updates, player version
is:
11.0.6001.7000. Vista sp1 is installed, too.
The files mostly sound like computer generated noise, although sometimes
they sound sped up with mild distortion. The problems exist in Audacity
too,
and resaving them or editing file info makes no difference. GSpot and
Sherlock find no problems. Files play fine using VLC media player.
I suspect it's a codec problem, but mp3 support is built in, so I don't
know
what more to do.
