Full volume is present but cannot be controlled with volume slider.

Volume control works fine for .wmv and .wav files, but not for .flv files.

WMP Classic and Winamp both have volume control for .flv files.

Have K-Lite Codec Pack 3.3.5 installed.

Any insights?

Codec packs generally break heaps of things (particularly Cole2k and
K-Lite among other culprits). Does the system recover if you remove
K-Lite and run FFDShow, enabling FLV playback instead ?

I'll investigate this. But seeing as how neither MP Classic nor Winamp
have this problem of loss of volume control when playing .flv files, I
would assume the problem is specific to WMP9. I could find nothing in
WMP Options that might address this issue.

After uninstalled K-Lite Codec Pack, MP Classic would only play the
audio portion of .flv files at normal speed. No video.

WMP9 would play audio at what sounded like 50 to 100 times faster,
basically chipmunks on speed. No video.

Winamp played the .flv files correctly, both audio and video, but unable
to increase the size of the video. This inability to increase size of
video applies not matter which codec is installed.

After installing FFDshow from link that you provided, MP Classic would
once again play .flv files correctly. WMP9 still plays audio only at 50
to 100 times normal speed.

After uninstalling FFDshow and installing the latest version of K-Lite
Standard, the situation is back to where it was. WMP9 will correctly
play .flv files but without volume control.

The volume control on MP Classic was once inoperable and I was able to
fix this by going to MPC Options|Playback|Output and changing DirectShow
Audio from 'Default DirectSound Device' to 'Santa Cruz' (my soundcard
brand).

Options in WMP9 does not allow a similar tweak for WMP9 and I could not
find it in the user interfaces for tweaks that came with K-Lite.

That sounds pretty odd, although I guess it's possible the flash
player in the page you're viewing could be busted.

I should have been more clear in my explanation of the problem.

The problem does not occur when playing .flv files on the net through
the browser.

The problem occurs when playing .flv files on the hard drive through WMP9.

Does the flash player on the BBC news website work OK ? Try
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7654267.stm and check out the monkeys
in the restaurant

The volume control works fine in that situation.
