Sorting in Library window permanently changes Playlists

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

WMP's instructions say the only way to edit a playlist is in the List Pane
(the right-hand window), but when I resort the Library (the middle window
with all of the columns) the playlist permanently changes to match the sort
and I thus lose the play order that I had carefully crafted in the List Pane.


Here's another way of saying it:
- I manually click and drag tracks up and down in the List Pane to set the
play order.
- I save this list as a new Playlist with the new name of, say, Dance 13.
- I click the list pane's big X to clear the list pane.
- I drag Dance 13 back to the List Pane and the play order is as I set it.
- In the Library window (middle window), I click a column to sort by, say,
file size.
- If I X the List Pane to clear the list, and then redrag Dance 13 to the
List Pane, it displays in the sort order - not my original list order.

So very weird.
