Re: Streaming video does not work

I am using Windows XP Professional, version 2002, SP2 (you'd think I would
know to include this info by now).
WMP v11.0.5721.5230

This URL: http://wnycwm.streamguys.com/bumpers/oct_pledge.wma
generated a popup error which says "Windows Media Player encountered a
problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help."

This URL: http://wnycwm.streamguys.com/bumpers/bumper.wma
generates the same error.

This URL: http://wnycwm.streamguys.com/wnycam
looks incomplete (to me) and generates the same error.

This URL: http://www.wnyc.org/images/wmp/christieseducation.jpg
Opens a graphic in the Media Player window. If I click "Play", the clock
counts for 4 seconds, no sound comes out (I didn't expect any to come from a
jpeg).

This URL: http://www.wnyc.org/images/wmp/dalai_lama.jpg
also opens the referenced graphic and plays for 4 seconds.

Another note: There is no way to retreive a lost password if you have
changed your email address. The email address I signed up for this account
with no longer exists. I couldn't remember my password. The "Forgot password
page" only sends a new password to your old email address. Fortunately, I
eventually remembered my password.

There is no way in this forum (that I can find) to change your password, or
change yyour login to match your new email address. It is very difficult to
get into this forum if you don't use it routinely.

Hmm it works fine here (WMP7 , win 2000)

The contents of the streams are just pretty-much standard WMA audio.
What version of OS and media player do you have there ?

If you try the individual streams, which ones work or don't ?
Press CTRL + U in media player and open each one in turn :

I canont get streaming video to work and I cannot even determine where to
look for help. I am clicking on the following link:
http://www.wnyc.org/stream/am.asx

That stream should play in Windows Media Player (I would think). Media
Player opens, and a dialog box which says that "Windows Media Player cannot
play any items in the playlist..." appears. There is a button called "Web
Help"; the stream does not play.

I have clicked the button which says Web Help and it takes me to a useless
web page which gives me a bunch of generic reasons why the stream might not
work, but does not tell me why this stream is not working.

The web page provides me links for Troubleshooting WMP and FAQs about WMP
which is just a mass of information and I have no idea what I am looking for.

Can someone help me get the above stream to work? Can you also explain why
it's not working so I can solve these problems myself in the future?

Thanks,
-Jeff
