Sooooo WMP actually is probably more careful about corrupted files here than
QuickTime is. It's hard to guess at this without looking at the file,
though. It does indeed sound like the files are corrupt. If you put up a
sample file somewhere, such as megaupload, I can run them through a quick
AVI validator - or you could do the same yourself.

When I try to open the movies, the very beginning shot shows. If I click
the
Play/Pause button, it just switches from Play to Pause. Nothing happens. I
can move the slider and different scenes appear as single shots. If I
click
the Stop button, the screen goes black. If I then click the play button, I
get a message that says Windows Media Player cannot perform the requested
action at this time. I have earlier movies taken before July 17 and they
all
will play with WMP. The movies after that won't play. I have to use
QuickTime.
Thanks

What exactly happens when you try?

My Canon camera shoots very good movies in AVI format. Until recently, I
could play these movies in WMP11 on my Vista laptop. WMP11 will still
play the older movies but will not play the movies I took starting 2
weeks ago, same camera, same card. I thought that maybe they became
corrupted on the card but I can play them in QuickTime so I know they
are ok.
I am guessing that there might have been an update that screwed this up
but why will the older movies play and not the newer ones?
.
