Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the Bomb! Now can you tell me how to get my
shortcuts back?

Please don't do anything I don't tell you to here. I guarantee you that I
know more about this area than anyone else on the planet since I wrote most
of this code. Thus you know you now currently hate me. On the plus side,
I can also probably unblock you so long as you listen carefully and don't
jump up, which would simply waste time for both of us. =) If you aren't
patient and take things into your own hands, this probably will not be a
productive encounter for either of us. I don't know what random stuff
"Tune-up" thinks it wants to do here, but since they've never talked to me,
at best they would be guessing about these areas. =)
You've now noticed you can not bypass this dialog that way, so let's move
on. As it saves state, you cannot influence this through reinstalling
uninstalling or hyperinstalling and probably don't want to waste your
precious time doing that. Let's focus on the probable source of the issue:
What's the registry value for "AcceptedPrivacyStatement" at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences in the
registry? At this point it should be "1". I'm betting that on your system
it is "0". Note that reinstalling will reset this every time, so, again,
reinstalling would be counter-productive. What happens if you change this
value to "1" and then rerun the player?
Cheers,
-Zach

When I click the short cut, it brings up the authentication window. I've
tried authenticating. It passes the authentication test, more then once.
I
tried reinstalling and the same thing happens, I guess I felt uninstalling
then reinstalling was the next thing to try. If you have any other
suggestions I am open to try them, I would really like it to work.
However,
since my last post, I installed Tune-up hoping that it would help fix the
registry. However it deleted the shortcuts since they didn't work, and
now
WMP is not showing on the list of programs but when I try to install it I
still get the same window that I have to authenticate windows and nothing
gets added to programs. I am worried that I am going to have to start all
over again. I wondered if uninstalling SP3 again and trying to install
WMP
then would make a difference. But really I am just waiting for a
suggestion
from someone who knows more then I do, sadly I am not very patient so I
have
probably done more harm in the mean time. Please help me if you can. I
will
not be able to try anything again until Friday night however since I am
out
of town on business and my issue is on my home PC. I also thought about
trying to copy WMP from my laptop to my home PC but I couldn't find my
thumb
drive to do that. I think it's obvious I am desperate. Everything else
seems to be working appropriately at this point, if that matters.
Thanks.

Why are you trying to uninstall if you want it to work? That seems
illogical to me, but that's probably because I'm more aware that the code
actually works better in reinstalling-over-the-top than the
impossible-to-achieve-complete-utter-clean install. (Which isn't
possible
because that's simply not how multimedia on Windows works.)
Since you really want to just Run The Player:
* So you click the shortcut to the player and what exactly happens?
This will then lead to a simple follow-up answer which will take us to
the
next stage. If you attempt to uninstall/reinstall I will politely wait,
but
you are wasting your time. =)

I had to reinstall Windows XP on my computer and have been encountering
many
issues since installing SP3. I had to uninstall SP3 to get a security
update
for IE7 and then reinstall it and that seemed to cause some problems so
I
do
not know if this is related to that or not. Every time I try to open
WMP
11
is brings up the authentication window, I did authenticate my version
several
times and even tried to change the key in case it was entered wrong.
The
validation tool showed I was validated but still WMP will not open. I
attempted to uninstall and it gives the rollback message and then
nothing
just like the previous post about not being able to uninstall.
This is what the registry says at that point you asked the other person
on
7/30
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Setup_wm.exe" /Uninstall
This is the last part of the wmset up dialog (you can see I've tried
several
times):
