Re: can't uninstall Windows Media Player 11

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Why are you trying to install SP1 or SP2 here? Note that those will only
confuse this particular matter. If you are attempting to move between
Service Packs as an attempt to adjust WMP's uninstall/rollback patterns, you
will fail and actually make the matter worse. If this is what you are
trying to do, please stop.

What's the registry value for "uninstallstring" at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
Windows Media Player
?

Can you post (via flickr or something maybe) a screenshot of the "are you
sure you want to continue" dialog?

Zachd: Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, it won't let me even
GET
to uninstall. When the "rollback" message comes on, it says, "Are you
sure
you want to continue?" but it doesn't let me say yes, lol! It just has a
"cancel" button. And the uninstall WPM 11 Runtime says it can't uninstall
because WPM 11 is dependent on it. EEK!
I went to the site, and have now uninstalled SP3 (it wouldn't take 2,
because I had 3); and I'm going to try to install SP1, and then SP 2.
What you said about what does it say after install -- well, I don't know,
it
never gets that far....;) Thanks for the dialogue. Hope you have some
more
input.

Its going to rollback regardless - there is no true "scorched earth"
uninstall. It'll rollback to WMP9, WMP10, whatever - it's not picky.

Go to uninstall it-
after this point, what are the last 30 lines or so in
c:\windows\wmsetup.log
?

I can't uninstall -- a box comes up and says "This may affect other
programs;
are you sure you want to continue?" And the only option is to CANCEL.
So
I
can't continue to remove it. It says "Rollback status" or something
like
that. I don't even HAVE Windows 10, so the rollback is irrelevant. My
computer won't take 10, and I was advised to download the Service Pack
2 --
wouldn't take it, I have 3. Also, was advised to uninstall 11 before
getting
10. Nothing is working :-{
