Hi,
I encountered the same problem in Windows Media Player. The sound distorted
at the end of track.
I tried to play the songs using other music player and I do not see the same
problem.
Could upgrading drive solve the problem?

The best plan is to install the drivers listed on the Dell site,.
they're probably more up to date than the link on the community page
that goes back over a year (if the Inspiron 1420 is a recent model)
It's possible you got the wrong drivers - the specific model support
would have been listed on the drivers page.
You'd need the service tag for the laptop, typically on a plate
underneath the case, and enter that into their software and driver
search, to see if any improved or recent drivers are listed :

Ok, I tried what the writer suggested and the 'disable all enhancements'------------------------------------------------
workaround was effective. However, I have an even bigger problem now. I
followed the link to the Dell support website to fix the problem by following
Dell's recomendation to download the latest audio driver here:
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=vista&thread.id=6860
which is Sigmatel C-Major HD Audio Driver Update for Windows Vista on XPS
and Dimension Systems.. and guess what? The installation went smoothly but
after restarting I now have NO sound at all? The speaker icon has a red cross
on it and it seems that 'no output device is installed'. I'm getting more and
more frustrated at the moment?

Hey, I have exactly the same problem. New laptop and distortion at the end of------------------------------------------------
tracks of only ripped files while normal playing works fine. However, one
extra thing I noticed is that if I 'seek' the track to about the point where
it gets jerky it plays smoothly instead. But I can't be doing that all the
time for every track right? It's highly frustrating for me as I listen to
music everytime I'm working with the laptop. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1420.
How about you? Could it be a fault of the laptop? Hope to see replies here
soon.

Ever since I got my new laptop, the WMP has had difficulties with what I
presume is a problem with the transition between songs. When it gets to about
10 seconds before the end of a track the audio slows down and skips for a
while before returning back to normal.
However it only does this with MP3s ripped to my computer or files from the
internet - all my .ogg files play normally, and if I play a CD it works fine.
Anyone have any suggestions? It's mildly irritating.
