Re: Burner problems-challenge you to fix it

Thanks for your help. I have tried uninstalling WMP and it rolls back to
WMP9. Problem goes away then. But when I reinstall WMP 11 it comes back. I
am no computer expert, but I know the basics. My friend who is a computer
programmer said that it was probably some software I installed that is not
compatible. But I cannot remember installing anything but Nero.
Have you run out of ideas? I told you it was a difficult one. Nobody seems
to have an answer out there.

So, just to be clear, WMP-11 is unable to burn but other application(s) can?.
It is crucial to make sure the device is actually working before trying to
troubleshoot software of course.
Have you tried different types of blanks in the device (I think at some
office supply stores you can buy 1 or 3 packs of burnable media to make sure
they work on your device before buying a stick of 100 or so... You might
also want to check to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your burner
(caution: that may introduce problems you dont have, so read the release
notes before slapping on any firmware update. For example, my Pioneer burner
had a firmware update that specifically addresses issues with a list of
media types that it was erroneously rejecting - like Memorex if I recall).
I presume you have checked for updates for WMP11 (although that is pain).
You might consider uninstalling it (also a pain) - I think it restores
WMP-10 - if so, try WMP-10 and then try installing the fresh d/l of WMP-11.
At this point, I would have to blame WMP-11 alone (no surprise there)

Hi Kerry,
I am talking about Windows Media Player 11. I have no external burner,
nor
ever had. I use drive D: and it can read CD's and DVD's but cannot burn.
It
was working perfectly and suddenly this happened. I do have Nero and use
Nero Vision to burn DVD's and have, on occasion, used Nero Express to burn
CD's. But this problem is really bugging me, as I would like to know what
caused it. I see on notice boards that I am not the only person to have
this
problem and nobody seems to be able to give a solution. Maybe you are the
genius and can fix it! Or there must be somebody in this great community
who
holds the secret.

"Connect a Burner and restart the player" appears when I try to burn
CD's.
Operating System XP. I have read all there is to read on fixing this
and
so
far nothing works. A computer programmer friend couldn't fix it. Any
genius
around who can help. I'll really be impressed!! I have not installed
any
software that could interfere and I don't want to install "fix it"
software.
Go for it, if you think you have the solution!!!!

It would help to have some more information:
- what type of burner do you have and do you know it is recognized by XP
already (check device manager)
(is it an internal drive or external ie: USB?)
- what version of what software are you attempting to burn CDs with?
(one
might guess Windows media player...)
- have you tried burning CDs with any other software other than the
answer
to the previous question
Whatever software you are trying to use to burn CDs obviously doesn't
think
you have a burner installed...
