Thanks again "kattails".
My computer is kept up to date with all updates,I think this small video has
a problem.I was into one of Microsoft's media web sites and they showed all
of the formats media player can play, and they let you try them one at a time
so you can check out your player.I tried the .wmv format and my player
played,so I guess there is nothing wrong with it.Thank so much for your help.
,and have a great day.

Hi HughGrandpa:.
First, did you try another video with ".wma". Just in case that particular
video is corrupt.
If it is continuing to not play or recognize ".wma" format (try a few
videos) then there is something wrong with WMP 11.
You have an XP Operating System: did you upgrade to the WMP 11 for XP rather
than the one for Vista. WMP 11 for Vista can cause problems for XP. Also,
do you have all the updates for your XP (Service Pack 2, etc.). That might
make a difference as well.
I found that the two ways to try and fix are: 1) uninstall WMP 11*** for XP
and re-install (your computer should rollback to WMP 10) and then re-install
the WMP 11 (it usually fixes a lot of problems); or 2) if you codecs is
corrupted you can try and download the codecs from Microsoft:
I doubt it is out of date.
*** Make sure you backup your music files before rolling back to WMP 10 and
re-installing. Just as a precaution.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

Thanks "kattails".
All of my file types are checked off. When I try to play this movie I get the
following information: The file you are attempting to play has an
extention(.wmv)that does not match the file format.Playing the file may
result in unexpected behavior.
When I click on play I get this message:Windows Media Player cannot play
this file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the
codec that was used to compress the file.
I am using Media Player 11 xp.

Hi HughGrandpa:
Windows Media Player 11 for XP or Vista comes with its own codec. It should
play your wmv format. Did you check your settings first: Go to Tools, then
Options, then File Types and ensure that all of the little boxes are ticked
off for each of the formats that you require to watch within Windows Media
Player.
Usually, its Media Center that usually causes problems like this. WMP 11
has always been quite good for different formats.
Also, check to make sure that your video is properly labelled with the
extension ".wmv". I know I've had problems with different file formats
because of this.
