I actually downloaded two copies of the track/song the one on the laptop plays fine but not the one on the pc!
But I take your point about avoiding these problems in the future, but how do I know, before dowloading that the file requires DRM?

I'm not sure what you mean by "copy back onto the PC" - where are you
copying it from ? It's one of the defects of DRM tracks that you can
only play it on the PC or device which has the license on it

Any other PC or device will need a second license issued, and
depending on the vagueries of the business model of the supllier, they
may not allow you to do that or move it at all.

My recommendation is to avoid music download which requires DRM for
pretty much the reasons you're experiencing - complexity and inability
to exercise fair-use rights of transfer of the content you're renting.

The DRM page to re-individualise your PC should be this :

If the button's greyed out, first close *all* browser windows, then
open a single browser window in IE6 or IE7 and visit that page.

If it remains greyed out after deleting the DRM folder then something
bad is wrong, possibly with your browser or WMP settings / install.

That's possibly a hidden or non-indexed folder.

In Vista it should be under the location
C:\Programdata\Microsoft\DRM
