Re: No Video interface ON WMP 11

That's not normal. That indicates that there's a reference count active
against the player preventing it from being shut down.

Is this Vista? Vista *SP1* should better be able to account for "orphaned"
reference counts.

Hi Neil

Many thanks - cured the problem !

I did have the toolbar for WMP selected and un-selecting it has restored
WMP to normal operation - however the taskbar mini player wasn't on show -
I've now found that this only appears (on my machine) when WMP is opened
and then minimized.

I can't remember ever ticking the WMP toolbar - but I assume I must have
done :-)

This all leads to another question - a problem that I have seen in other
posts - when WMP is playing video or music - closing the WMP window does
not stop the media playing - it has to be stopped with the stop button on
WMP before closing the window - any thoughts on this - or is this normal
operation?

Thanks again

Alansd

When this happens, are there a bunch of controls in the Taskbar, where
the media player icon usually appears ? That's called the taskbar mini
player. There's a screenshot of how that looks here for WMP10 :

It's simiar (but black) for WMP11. Did you have chance to try the Move
command when it does open invisible/off screen yet ?

Hi Neil - Thanks for the reply - however that's not the problem!
When I open WMP it is centered on the screen - it's just that
clicking on a media file opens it with no visual interface
as the sound starts playing - then when I open WMP manually the
interface appears centered on the screen with the video running
in sync with the audio.

Somehow it's opened off-screen. The setting of the last location the
WMP window was at is stored when it's closed down, and used again when
you re-start the player.

To fix that, open WMP, right-click on the taskbar icon for the player,
and choose "Move" from that menu. Leave the mouse aside for a moment,
and using only the arrow keys on your keyboard, move the WMP window
left and down (or up and right) with the arrow keys, until a part of
it appears on screen.

At that point you should be able to drag the player completely onto
screen using the mouse. Now, Close the player down. That will save the
position settings as on-screen. Next time you reopen the player, it
should stay on screen at startup.

I have a problem -new Dell pc

Media player worked fine initially but now if I click on a
movie file .wmv .mpg . .avi etc etc the sound starts playing but
no sign of WMP on the screen - it doesn't appear in task manager
in the 'application' tab but is running in the 'process' tab.

I don't get any error messages or anything like that, the player just,
for whatever reason, is only playing the audio part of the file.

However if I then open WMP the video is already running in sync with
the
audio.

To put it yet another way, it's just like the WMP interface doesn't
open
although
the program is actually running.

The only work I have done on the PC is a multitude of attempts to
correctly
tune in and configure Widows Media Centre

Thanks for any solutions to this !!
