Re: WMP on Vista Ultimate x64 looking shaky

Hi Zachd,

I managed to resolve the problem today. I was using the latest signed certified Microsoft drivers for this card. I installed the latest MSI nvidia drivers, and it fixed the problem.

The audio card was supplied by Asus with the motherboard. I can't remember what it's called but the the motherboard is an Asus P5N32-E SLI. I do have an issue with that too - it's not detecting when headphones are being plugged into the front sockets, but thats another story! I'll work on that problem next.

Thanks
Mike

What particular driver version? The latest update on WindowsUpdate or the latest on the nVidia site?

What audio card is on the system?

I've been searching for solutions to this problem but still not found anything, though I am fairly sure it is a DirectX problem. WMP uses DirectX. If I try Windows Media Centre that has problems displaying too (and also uses Directx) - I have to alt-tab out of it and then back to it for it to move onto the next screen with WMC. I've run DXDIAG. It doesn't detect any problems. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64, and it's using all the latest certified drivers.

This morning I noticed that all video played in WMP looks like it's dropping frames giving it a stuttering effect. This happens with video embedded in web pages as well as played directly in WMP.

I'm using two MSI NX8600GT nvidia graphics adapters linked in SLI mode.

I have no idea what is causing this problem. When I play back other video such as Youtube and videos on CNET (I think they are flash based), the video plays perfectly.

Could someone recommend some settings that I could change to resovle the problem?

Thanks
Mike
