Re: MPEG blocking problem

Hello zachd,
This is above my level of uderstanding. I have only vague ideas of how these
filters have come into my computer.
I have installed Roxio easy media creator. The Nero filter must have come
with Samsungs external DVD-Writer and the Ulead filter have come with the
Nokia software for my mobile telephone. As to the other filters I have no
idea.
Is there any conflict between thesw filters? Can I remove filters?
Best regards

Why do you have MPEG codecs from five different vendors on your system?
That's confusing to me. What multimedia applications/tools did you install?
Where did the Ligos filters come from?

Hi Everybody,
I have experienced the same problem as many of you. My WMP worked
perfectly
until one day when I tried to open an MPEG file on the Internet. My WMP
11
blocked itself and according to Task Manager the "wmplayer.exe" was
using
99
% of the CPU. The computer went very slow. Trying to stop the player I
clicked the exit button and the player disappeared from the screen.
However
the "wmplayer.exe" was still using 99 % of the CPU. I simply had to
restart
the computer.
This problem appears every time I try to watch an MPEG file online from
the
Internet but only MPEG files. All other video files could be played
online.
Remarkably, as many of you have noticed, loading the MPEG file onto the
HD
makes it playable again. This is surely very annoying.
From other subjects on the newsgroup I have learned a few hints. One is
to
rename the file "mcspmpeg.as" to "mcspmpeg.bak". But I don't have that
file
on the computer. Removing the file "mmswitch.ax" or
"neroburnplugin.dll"
was
another hint. But I don't have those files either.
Please could anyone help!?

error C00D11B1 it seems likes its all over this forum, and Google
search
reveals tons of occurrences. Microsoft, GIMME A FIX!
My occurrence: Click on a link in a webpage pointing to a media file,
and
I
get "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the
file.
For
additional assistance, click Web Help." Clicking web help leads me
to
the
C00D11B1 which is useless info.
HOWEVER, if I right click on the media file and choose SAVE AS and
save
the
file somewhere on the harddrive, then browse to it and double click on
it,
the file plays fine. This same scenario occurs with every media file
encountered anywhere in IE. This says to me that the crap in "web
help"
about sound card and codecs and drivers is NA.
Any help would be appreciated.....thanks in advance.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows XP Pro SP2 here. This issue is NOT related to DRM issues..
Those
are
separate. I'm working with unprotected media.
Same prob here, no resolution. BUT, at least in my case, I do know
what
software caused this error and how (in a way). I just can't figure
out
is
exactly WHAT the software changed in the registry that I can change
back
to
fix this stupid problem.
To be clear, I too CAN play any given MPG file IF and only IF I first
download it to the local hard drive. As with others, if I try to play
the
same MPG directly from the website, I get the same COOD11B1 error
message.
Here's what I've discovered and hopefully, this might trigger some
others
out there with ideas.
First, the cause. I use Pinnacle Studio 10 Premium Media Suite video
editing software. What seems to be causing the problem is that when I
uninstalled Studio from my machine AND install its Media Suite
software
as
well, it "changes" something... or better said, it doesn't RETURN
WMP's
registry settings to what they were before it was installed. After
the
uninstall, WMP returns above error in said scenario.
If I were to reinstall all of Studio Media Suite, the problem
disappears.
Now, that being said. Here's something else I've seen, which by the
way,
may back up what smallpipe suggested about WMP's file hand off, or
perhaps
IE's file hand off to WMP!
If I download the MPG to the hard drive, play it in WMP I can check
its
properties and see things like Media type: Video, Size: 352x288,
Aspect
Ratio: 1.34:1, Audio Code and Video Codec: MPEG .. decoder, and
location,
which points to where I saved it on the hard drive. All its
information
is
intact.
HOWEVER, if I try to play the same file from the site (any site, any
mpg
file will do, and one that played just fine before) now, in Now
Playing,
there's a Red X with the file name. If I check its properties, there
is
NO
INFORMATION at all, EXCEPT for the location, which does properly show
the
URL.
So, it does appear that "something" is blocking or stopping the header
information from passing from IE to WMP.
And yes, I've made sure that everything in security is allowing the
media
to
be played without restriction. I've even, as a test, turned off ALL
firewall
and security settings to off and the problem still occurs.
Hope this triggers some more thought, experiment and maybe a
resolution.
If
I come up with a resolution to this, I will post it immediately
(unless
of
course I give up and re-image my PC to a pre-Studio 10 condition.
which
does
work, by the way
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
NOPE...still no fixes or anyone trying to help fix it either!!!!!
