Media Player Classic

Good afternoon all,
I'm running XP Pro SP2 completely patched--except I still run WMP9 as this
is an old machine, and thought it might be less taxing.
Lately, I've been hearing about something referred to as "Windows Media
Player Classic".
What is it?. Any advantages/disadvantages over current WMP's?
This probably qualifies as the most ridiculous question--but Enquiring Minds
need to know ;-)
