Re: Zune & Media Player Problems...

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I checked the suggestions you made and summarized below, but it still did not
help.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate.

1) Network discovery, file sharing, and media sharing are all set to On, and
the Network icon shows (Private Network).

2) Universal Plug and Play Device Host is started and set to automatic.
I don't have any service labeled HTTP SSL and SSDP Discovery services.
I do have one labeled SSDP Discovery and it is started and set to
automatic.
The next closest thing is WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discorery and it is
started but set to manual.

I also have now discovered I can't add files into the library, either
manually or by adding a folder to the monitored folders list. In fact when I
choose a folder to add, it puts it in the list but when I choose OK nothing
happens and when I go back in to look at my monitored folders list it is now
empty.

It's almost like the programs are in read-only mode or something.

I seem to be experiencing a host of problems in WMP 11 and the Zune software
running under Vista Ultimate. To summarize:

1) I Can no longer use media sharing. When I click on the option, WMP 11
says it has been turned off becuase a required Windows setting or component
has changed

Do you have Vista, or is this on a windows XP box ?

On Vista, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network -> Set up file
sharing. On that box, make sure Network discovery, file sharing, media
sharing are all set to On, and that the Network icon shows (Private
Network) not (Public Network) - click Customize... to change that if
necessary.

In Contol Panel, go to System and Maintenance, Administrative Tools,
and double click the Services icon (and accept user access prompt)

Check that :

Universal Plug and Play Device Host
HTTP SSL and SSDP Discovery services

are all set to Automatic startup, and are listed as running.

2) Can't edit or delete playlists. Manually created or auto. If I delete the
playlist file out of the playlist directory (in Windows explorer), it still
shows up in the playlist in both WMP and Zune. I can create playlists, but
they don't show up in either the Zune or WMP software, only in Media Center.
3) Will not download album information off of the internet, every CD I put
in says "Uknown Album". If I click on the album and choose "Find Album Info"
it locates the album and I select it and click finish, but the information is
not applied to the album.

If you can provide me with any information or point me in a general
direction, it would be much appreciated.

With the library problems, have a read of ZachD's site and try each
step in turn : http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary
