Re: Starting WMP 11 minmised?

Hi Neil

Fraid not. Tried doing as you say, turning off WMP toolbar first, making
sure the shortcut didn't open a playlist, ensuring it was set to run
Minimised, and ensuring I only double-clicked once.

Opens up in a normal window every time.

What is more, I'd really want to be able to open a specific playlist and for
it to still open up minimised (to the taskbar)... I can't imagine why I'd
want just to open up WMP minimised for it to sit there and do nothing.

This doesn't appear to be a problem limited to me... some googling has found
others with the same issue.

What OS are you running?

Mike

Works for me, both as minimised, and as toolbar player.

Try turning off the WMP Toolbar first to test (right-click taskbar,
choose Toolbars, untick WMP). Now clone your WMP icon.

Right-click and Properties - make sure it's only showing the path to
WMP and not a playlist or other content (that may force it to show, if
it's visual content).

Next to the Run : box, choose "Minimised".

Close WMP down. Double click the icon *once* - if you double click it,
then do that *again* it'll pop out of minimised because it's already
running and assumes you're trying to focus the player to do something.

That probably explains why it "appears" to be unpredictable - you're
impatiently clicking on the icon, and the multiple clicks spring it
out of the minimised mode - WMP can take several seconds to start up
and I guess you're assuming nothing's happening and clicking again in
annoyance.

Finally, re-enable the toolbar, close WMP and repeat as desired -
it'll pop straight into toolbar mode.

I'm trying to work out a way to launch WMP 11 in a minimised window, so that
the WMP controls appear on the Vista taskbar.

I've tried creating a shortcut to launch WMP, setting the option to open as
*minimised*... but this seems to be ignored, and WMP anyway starts in a
normal window.

I've looked for a suitable command line parameter but can't see one.

Any ideas?

The guy here in this post seemed to have found a solution:

http://www.camcorderanswers.com/f13/any-ideas-why-minimized-fails-when-using-wmplayer-command-4635/

But clicking through I only see some WMP11 command line parameters that are
of no relevance to the issue in hand??

Any ideas how to get WMP 11 to fire up minimised?

Thanks,

Mike
