This won't help you guys much but here is the latest reponse from JVC. I
think they have thrown in the towel. I don't think "MPEG4" is specific
enough to help me out so it is all up to you guys now. You are my heros!

After further review the video clip files stored with this camcorder are
compatible with MPEG4 players. Which player to use specifily JVC will not be
able to assist you with. Once again I have done some personal research and
found a lot of freeware programs that might play back files.

Popular players I came across are quick time and divx player. Here is a link

I don't want to install anymore programs to my PC as I might have already
made a mess of it trying to figure this out. But do you think I should try
opening the files with the Divx player or wait while you sort out the codec
needed? I think I have the MP4S codec supported on my PC yet it won't play.
Could something be corrupted?

That's quite a common codec for downloaded AVIs too, so it's generally
useful to have. There's no cost for just the codec part of DivX.

The MP4S code, now I come to look it up, should be DivX 4 (I thought
it was MS MPEG for some reason last night) and DivX6 is backwards
compatible with that.

WMplugins.com doesn't have a download file for 11.0 on it. I have
installed
several codecs (G.726, etc) and even tried to open them with VLC.

I can hear the sound but no video when I open the file with VLC.

I used AVIcodec which tells me the following information about the
file.

File : 86 KB (0.00 B), duration: 0:00:00, type: ASF, 1 audio
stream(s), quality: 2 %, ,

Video : 0.00 B, 144 Kbps, 0.0 fps, 160*120 (4:3), MP4S = ISO

I have searched the web and this site and don't see a solution. JVC
hasn't
supplied me with the answer either.

Can any tell me how to get the proper video codec needed?
