Re: Unable to install WMP 11

I am logged in as "me" and I am the admin. Do I have to do something
different?
When I get my prompt, am I typing the exact words you have?

Open cmd.exe As An Administrator. If you don't open it As Administrator
this won't work.

Run:
unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
in the prompt that you get. Voila.

What happens if you run:

I bought my Sony VGN-SZ4XWN/C a few months ago with Vista Business
pre-installed. I have windows update set to automatically download
every
day.

Are you up to date on Windows Update?

That specific error typically means that the system cryptographic
store
is
not able to validate system components. It's historically been pretty
limited to an XP-only issue based upon a old issue with how QFEs were
generated. Is this an upgraded system, or was it a clean install of
Vista?

Thanks for the quick response.

The actual error message I get when opening WMP is "Windows Media
Player
is
not installed properly and must be re-installed. Do you want to
install
the
Player from the Microsoft Web site?"
Of course, if I say yes I then get the error message in my first
posting!
It never occurred to me that I would have to re-install Vista to get
WMP
working.

What's the exact text of the error that you get?

You cannot reinstall WMP on Vista. You must reinstall Vista if you
need
to
reinstall WMP.

WMP does not run on my PC and asks for a re-install. I have
downloaded
the
latest version of WMP 11 but get the following error message when
trying
to install "There is a more recent version of Windows Media
Player
(11.0.6000.6344) already installed on your computer. It is not
possible
to
use an older installation package (11.0.5721.5146) to install
files
or
to
repair your current version of the Player."
How can this be!?
What can I do to 'upgrade' to the latest version.
