msgirl,

I think the next most logical thing would be to try and get that same
webcast (or any other webcast) by using any other player like Zune or Winamp.
When I try to get any webcast using  any player I get the same messages.

I checked my firewalls, and even recently went to my registry using Reg
Seeker (free fromwww.webattack.com) and scraped off anything that remained
of Norton's but there are so many abbreviations I probably did not get them
all.

I honestly think I will have to forget about webcasts for a while. I have so
many bookmarks and favorites and so many other things I do not want to lose
by doing a re-install. I want to try and resolve the problem but I think the
whole porblem is nor than just with Windows Media Player. It is from some
program install or some web update  that Microsoft itself put on me. That is
going to be hard to find. Even System Restores did not help me.

You sound quite knowledgeable are you a programmer?

Jesse Jr, Thank you so much for your thoughtful response!

I emailed Microsoft and here is their reply:

"That event ID that you are trying to view has either been modified or
removed. Therefore, if you like, try visiting that link in an Internet
Explorer browser and you iwll find that the event no longer exists on that
conference center."

I suppose this is possible, but it is hard to believe that I just happened
to view a webcast, that was up for several years, the day before they took it
down...

I plan (as a next step) to have a co-worker try to view the same webcast and
see if they are able to.

Thanks again!

msgirl,

I get the very same message with my Window Media Player 11 when I try to
stream from a web site I used to get streaming so easily.

I tried to get rid of Norton Antivirus, Internet Security, which is the
usual problem..it was before many years ago. When I got rid of it back
then...everything came back to normal. This year when I tried it
again...Norton's would not scrape off even with the program called
"De-Crapifier"...I know it is a funny name but it did clean off most of
Norton's but to my horror...I found out it was not completely gone. So it
seems Norton built in something to punish those who tried to rid themselves
of their Norton's. These are the things I have tried all to no luck.

1) Reverted to Win Amp 5.5  (it too was affected so it must not be a Windows
Media Player alone)...I once got a message that it was a group policy
affecting this.
2) I tried to take "Windows One" off with a program that lets me do that (I
got it at the "Windows One" support website). It was affecting my Windows
Firewall and had simply taken over and knocked out my windows firewall.. Even
though it freed up my Windows Firewall...this did not solve the problem.
(OneCareCleanUp.exe)
3) I went to Win Patrol and freed up all the services so that they read
automatic and that was where I found that "De-Crapifier" had not take every
component of Norton's off. So I disabled what was still there of Nortons.
4) I went to the Windows Media Player 11 website and downloaded any and all
of the codecs, hotfixes, WindowsMedia-Q828026-x86-enu.exe
5) I tried the WinSockXP fix you can get atwww.webattack.comIt may have
fixed somethings but it did not fix my Windows Media Player 11 stuff.
6) I went through my sygate 5.6 firewall and made sure everything was
cleared that said Microsoft...so that it could enter through the firewall.
7) I went to the WMP 11 and chose "options" under the "library" tab then
chose Network only to find that tab would not even open. IF IT DID...I could
check all the boxes so that the WMP 11 would received signals. So something
is blokcing my ability to do that.....THAT is where the problem is...at least
for me....see if that is your problem too...if it is...none of the things I
did above will help you either..but you can try them.

The only option will then be to save all your files onto disk....and
re-install your Windows XP operating system....but that is rather drastic. I
have found no one can answer any of the my problems either. No one....

So I loaded the Zune Player from MicroSoft and it seems to give me better
music..but I have not tried to stream with it yet. I'll let you know my
progress. Stay in touch with me if I do ot come back to this forum by writing
to me at:

I am presently leaving Houston for Minneapolis/St. Paul where I will be for
a number of months. I hope I can get an internet connection there so you can
relay your success with this problem as well. I think we both have the same
problem. Everything else on my computer works EXCEPT the WMP 11. I use a
laptop computer from Compaq Presario V2000 and Windows XP Home with SP2 and
all updates.

Well stay in touch ms girl and let me know how you do. If I come up with any
more ideas I will let you know. I really think it is because some program we
both downloaded is blocking the ports we use for http tranmission of
streaming audio, though no one will tell me and no one seems to know anything.

Hello,

I am not sure what version of Windows Media Player I have(there is no
visible "Help" menu), but I am on Win XP.

I previously was able to view a webcast on MSDN at this link:
http://msevents.microsoft.com/CUI/EventDetail.aspx?EventID=1032255670...

but now when I try to view it (or any other webcast on the stie), I get the
following error message (inside of WMP):

Windows Media Player Error
-1072885353: Windows Media Player cannot find the file.  If you are trying
to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point
to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted.

The thing that I don't get is, I'm (attempting to) streaming this webcast.
And I successfully viewed it before, so I don't know what the problem could
be.

Before the error message pops up, I see a message in WMP that says
"Connecting to Media".

Anyone have any ideas?  I haven't modified anything on my computer
explicitly, but I do install all Windows Recommended Updates- Hide quoted text -
