Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Try cleaning CD very well. I did this with a CD that was taking forever to
rip and itlooked clean, but after I cleaned it CD ripped in under 1 minute.

I also have a problem with my 2 DVD writers trying to rip music to my
hard drive. In the past, I have always ripped at 20x+ (both drives are rated
up to 48x and I use 52x CD-R's) but now it runs about 5x or less, taking way
too much time. I recently had to change my motherboard but the 2 drives are
holdovers from my old configuration. I have "Error Correction" turned off and
use "Digital" format. I have tried MP3 at 192Kb and 320Kb and WMA at 192Kb.
Is there something in the Registry that governs the ripping speed? I have
downloaded the latest ASPI drivers to no avail. I hope someone can help me.

Ripping in digital with error correction. Here's an update. After
exhausting all other options, I changed the firmware from my HP DVD 640c
(OEM) writer to a BenQ DW1625 and after that, suddenly I was able to rip at
high speeds again.

However, after ripping about 50 cd's at high speeds, the drive locked up and
wouldn't eject a dvd. I had to manually open it to get the dvd out and after
that, it's now ripping cd's at a slow speed again.

This is really wierd. When it was ripping at higher speeds, I could hear
the cd drive whirring away, but now it's almost silent when ripping. It's as
though its ripping at 2x speed.

That's typically indicative of WMP getting an extremely dirty digital read
from the CD drive. Or you are ripping in analog mode.

Are you ripping analog or digital?

There's obviously a problem with ripping in WMP11. I'm ripping my entire
CD
collection and upgraded 1/2 way through. With WMP10, the entire CD was
usually ripped WMA lossless in less than 4 minutes. Now, with WMP11 it's
taking like 30 minutes for one CD. I hope somebody can find a fix or its
going to take me all year to finish my collection.
