Thanks for posting your solution, Chaya.
It is odd that you don't have the protocols where they normally would be. I
wonder if that is something related to having installed Yahoo Jukebox
(formerly MusicMatch Jukebox).
In any case, I am glad to hear you found a solution.

I kept getting the following error when trying to play streaming music,.
either through Media Player alone or through Yahoo! Music Jukebox:
"Playback engine cannot play the file because the
specified protocol is not supported...try using a different transport
protocol (for example http or rstp)..."
I finally found a fix for it, so I thought I'd share.
The solution was this:
First, if your problem involves the Yahoo! Jukebox:
Open Windows Media Player
In the Tools menu, click on Plug-Ins
Click the Yahoo! Music Jukebox Plugin so a checkmark appears
Next:
Under Tools, click Plugins, then click Options
Under the Network tab there's a section called "Streaming proxy settings."
Protocols and their proxies are listed here.
Click each protocol you want to use (in my case HTTP and RTSP) and change
the proxy setting to "Autodetect"
Problem solved.
I had been trying to use the Tools>Options>Network settings without results.
I had no idea that there was another Network menu in Tools>Plugins>Options!
Good luck!
