File Types Association Broken

I have been using WMP 11.0.5721.5230 with Windows XP Pro for a quite a
while, without problems. Yesterday I double-clicked an mp3 file and
Yahoo Music Player started instead of WMP, which is my default player.
Yahoo was installed a couple of months ago and WMP has worked well
even after the Yahoo install.

So I went to Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types, mp3,
Change, WPM and the WMP icon showed as the associated player. Then
when I double-clicked on an mp3 Yahoo Player started once again.

Then I went through all the steps and selected Total Recorder to
associate and when I double-clicked an mp3, Total Recorder played.

Then I went through all the steps and selected WMP once again and when
I double-clicked, Total Recorder played.

Next I went to WMP, Tools, Options, File Types, Select All.
Double-clicking an mp3 brought up Total Recorder.

This was about all the trouble-shooting I could think about doing.

Any ideas about what can be causing the problem?
