RE: Uninstalling WMP on Vista

Here's an example:

http://www.jewishjukebox.com/products/jewish_contemporary_music/2176.asp
(any of the "play" buttons on this page give me the error within WMP.)

The other issue (Yahoo! Music Jukebox) I don't have exact URL's for because
I click on the songs within the Yahoo! application. The URLs aren't revealed
to me, but I get the same message when the Jukebox goes through the process
of requesting the stream.

What is the exact URL of the file you are trying to open? Is it a mms
protocol?

Sorry -- the error is "Playback engine cannot play the file because the
specified protocol is not supported...try using a different transport
protocol (for example http or rstp)..."

I tried downloading the newest version of WMP from the Microsoft web site.
Unfortunately, the version I already have installed is newer, so I can't
overwrite it with a different one!

I've already tried the fixes that Microsoft recommends -- checking all the
protocol types in the Windows Media Player Tools>Network menu.

Anyone have any other ideas? I'm paying Yahoo! Music to listen to these
streams. It's terribly frustrating not to be able to do so!

What "very common protocol error" are you referring to?

You cannot uninstall WMP from Vista. Technically, you can't uninstall WMP
from XP either, you can only uninstall upgrades to the original WMP in XP.
So you're going to have to look at alternative solutions to your problem.

I'm trying to fix the very common protocol error problem on WMP. It's not
only interefering with anything I want to play from the net on MP, it' also
affecting Yahoo! Music. None of the streaming music from ym Yahoo! Music
subscription will work.

The fix I've read here is to uninstall WMP, reinstall it and then reinstall
it again over itself.

Question is -- how do I uninstall it in Vista? WMP does not appear on the
Control Panel list of programs I can uninstall.
