In WMP11, that would be (any of the tabs) small dropdown menu, More

When I fire up WMP11 there are no dropdown menus. Now, maybe I'm firing it
up wrong. I go to Start:Programs:WMP. The "menus" are things like library,
rip, burn, etc.

Yes, they're the tabs. Under each tab should be a small down arrow.
When you click that, each tab has a context-sensitive More Options
menu item, that's what I'm specifically referring to.

I thought that was it. If I get the suggestion right, the question is
whether the MIME types for .wmv and .asf files is right. If they were wrong
would I be able to play the files at all? I'm able to double click on the
files and they play right. The problem occurs when invoking them when
testing the local site in FireFox.

As you've said, you don't have a web server in the loop here.
I was misled by you calling it a 'local website' in fact, you're
browsing files locally on the PC. So the PC won't return any data in
MIME headers (that's a function of a web server).

Instead, the browser should use the local PC's file associations.

I think we may be off on a bunny trail here.

If I test the site locally using IE7, no problem. If I test the site
locally using FF, problem.

You never mentioned Firefox till this post, in your original post you
said "the browser" then later mentioned IE7 ;-)

All the talk about IIS and MIME types doesn't seem to be related.

Agree, not now we've got a better picture. Are you 'embedding' the
media player into a web page, using <object /> and/or <embed /> tags ?

If so, you might benefit from the Firefox WMP plugin from the Port25
website (it was updated from the old NS version which never really
worked too well). Try to install this and see if it helps for playback
