How are you linking to the files? Directly or via ASX/WVX?
Is the MIME type set?
Have you tried resetting the association using WMP's Tools:Options:File
Types?

While testing a local web site (via browser) I get an error message that
WMP

There error does not occur on the published site.

I've run tests and so far only .wmv and .asf files return the error. All
others (mp3, mpg, etc.) all seem to work fine.

The site had not been updated for quite some time which means the files
and
the html haven't been changed. So the error seems to be occurring because
of
some other change.

The only changes I can think of that occurred (other than auto maintenance
of XP) is I converted from XP Home to XP Pro and also allowed IE7 to be
installed.
