I can tell you that I am the only one who installs anything I have never
installed any codecs...I never even heard of them until I started tried to
fix this. Could you tell me what to uninstall and I'll try that? My monitor
is HPw1907.
I don't have a lot of software on this, I did install Java, RealArcade and
mIRC. I tried to install Realplayer to see if it would play dvds, but I get
the WMP error message when that opens. All music, wmp attachments play, just
not a dvd movie. I really appreciate your time and effort. Maybe I installed
codecs with RealArcade? But I did that months ago and the WMP only crapped
out coming on 7-8 weeks now.

I was wondering if you had third party DVD codecs installed to the system,
and you do indeed seem to have those. Do you know who might have installed
those? How were they installed? Does uninstalling them fix this issue?
I was more curious about what cable type was being used to connect your
monitor to the PC, and what monitor type it was.
I'm trying to collect enough data from the few people I see here reporting
this issue to determine what they have in common. If they too had very old
MainConcept codecs on their system, for example, that might be the
commonality. The more data I can get here, the more possibility there is
that I can figure out the shared broken factor is. =\
