This really isn't a player problem - it sounds like the sound card may have
died... ? =\ Your local computer shop is probably the place to turn here
now. =\

Symptom: No sound! This PC has worked fine for over a year and is factory
spec (inc Vista). No driver, sound or any other issues. One evening
everything fine, the next evening, turn everything on and no sound. All
speakers, cables all checked and fine, Mute controls(!)
Error message: No audio device installed
My PC is a Dell E521 (Dual core AMD, 2Gb RAM) which was shipped with an
OEM
version of Vista 32Bit. The sound card is onboard (I think) and is a
SigmaTel. And is Vista compatable.
I have already tried downloading and reinstalling various versions of the
SigmaTel drivers from the Dell site and my Dell drivers disk. Specifically
the R157052, R147075 and R132395. The former was recommended on the Dell
site
to specifically address this issue. With each install I went through the
following process:
1. I've removed the previous driver via the uninstall function in programs
and features and the control panel.
2. Reboot
3. Installed new driver
4. Reboot
After every install Device manager shows the Audio device is installed
but,
each time nothing. The speaker symbol in the system tray just has a read
cross through it. When you mouse over the message "Volume 0" flashes up
and
confirms the SigmaTel high def audio codec is installed. When I right
click
the speaker symbol and "open the volume mixer" I simply get the message
" no
Audio device installed.
I've also tried updating the driver automatically via device manager.
Any thoughts anyone? I've run out of ideas!
Thanks in advance.
