Re: Can't play music samples from internet

Hello,
I've been following this question due to me having the same type of problem.
I just went to Amazon.com however and was able to listen to the music
samples they have there. But - what I cannot do now and was able to do
easily before was to go to a web site with wav or midi files for download to
use on web pages. To listen to a file you used to be able to click on the
file and it would open in Windows Media Player. If you liked it you could
then do the right-click and select "save target as" to save the file. Now,
after getting the last update for windows media player 11 you cannot click on
the file to listen it to - you only get a blank white page and the file never
opens in the player. I can still right-click and save the midi or wav file
but it sure is a royal pain to download so many items that are not what you
want. It was so much nicer when you (or Microsoft) allowed one to listen to
it the sample first before downloading. You asked for site examples - here
are two.

Here is a sample web site that has wav files available for free download:

http://new.wavlist.com/soundfx/009/index.html

Here is a web site that has free midi files for download:

There are NO reported errors - the player simply will not load and play the
file and for YEARS it did. This is something that is really annoying and
makes one want to un-install version 11 and go back to 10. I have really
enjoyed and appreciated the work that Microsoft does but in the last year or
so... truthfully - I get so stressed and nervous when all the Updates come
out. I've truly had more headaches with the updates going wrong than I ever
had with security problems. I also have had trouble with purchased music
bought on-line and will never buy any music like that again. I'll pay for
the real CD thank you... too much goes wrong with licenses or files not
playing - have got "burned" with not being able to get the music I bought to
play. Just thought somebody out there might like to know what most people
think.

Thank you for any help on this problem with version 11 of the player you
might have. And I still gotta appreciate all the wonderful things that do go
right!

What can I do to fix it?

Is there some sort of error message ? What steps would I take to
reproduce this problem - for example, on which exact web page is the
music sample you're trying to play ?

Cheers - Neil
