Thanks so much for your help. I will notify them about their problem. If
they don't fix it, it won't me any loss to me. I just won't go to that web
site. Again, thanks for clearing this up for me.

You have the right plug-in since WMP is showing up. =)
Cool - if it's just this web site, it's often very easy to look up a contact
on the site and tell them that their MIME type is misconfigured, point them
to the MSDN article here about how to fix it, and then voila, it might work.

This has helped me a lot because it has always happened on this web site.
I
contacted them about it and they told me it was a Vista problem. My media
player works fine until I go to that web site. The only other players
installed is Real Player and Itunes. Media Player is my default player.
I'm
with you I think it is their web site and not my media player since it is
working okay on other sites. If you have any other suggestions, please
let
me know. I did talk to a Vista Rep at Circuit City today and he said it
sounded like a plug in problem, maybe one is missing. I checked the plug
in
section on my Media Player and everything seems to be okay there, I guess,
since I don't really know what plug ins are. I don't really know what
would
be missing anyway. As you can tell, I don't know a lot about the Media
Player, except it is suppose to work. Other than this web site, I don't
think I am having any other problems. Again thanks. If I have further
problems, I will let you know. I hope you understood what I was trying to
say in this message.

That's interesting - that's Error: Moniker not available --
MK_E_UNAVAILABLE
.. It's *relatively* isolated as an error case, but that's still a lot
of
code to look through.
Hm, the site is actually technically broken as is since it's sending down
text/plain for the MIME type rather than the correct video/x-ms-wmv --
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#mime
covers how to fix that. If you like this site, you might want to ask
them
to fix that.
Does this happen for you on other sites? A different site would be
slightly
more interesting in that misconfigured MIME types are potentially their
own
source of error.
At what time did this first occur - that is, did it ever work? I don't
have
a repro of this issue so I'm working blind here. Excuse my abnormally
high
stupidity. =)
Are any third party players installed?
Is networking in Internet Explorer working normally otherwise?
Does the Media Guide in Windows Media Player work?

Here is the URL that the error takes me to:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.6000.6344&id=C00D11B1&contextid=230&originalid=800401E3
Everything on that page I have tried. Still does not work.
Thanks for getting back with me on this. I have been looking back on
some
other discussions on this same problem. No one so far has a solution
especially since this is Vista we are talking about.

No, changing the URL would fail miserably to do anything. I'm
generally
not
available most hours, so I'll respond back when I get a chance.
Click Web Help on that error dialog - what *URL* does it take you to?
That's probably the next key here.
Gateway probably doesn't have the super precise expertise useful here.
Plus
remote trouble-shooting is pretty brutally hard.

With the URL listed as you have it with wmv on the end of it instead
of
html,
it plays. So do I need to change the html to wmv each time I go to
a
web
site to play something?
Thanks

Does playing:

directly work?
On the Fisherman site, if you click on the embedded WMP and then
right-click
on it, do you get any Error Details?

I have Windows Media Player 11 for Vista Premium. Here is an
example
of
a
web page that it will not play:
http://fishermansnet.com/ShirleyOremland/Videos/JourneyOfLove.html
It will not play on any web sites that uses any version of Media
Player.

What is a typical, exact web page address to reproduce the

A lot of older websites still use addresses for the video

this
playback type has been deprecated, and it was removed in media
player
11.
