Re: Attempt to rollback WMP11 to WMP10 failed

There hopefully is a second event with a bucket number. Or more data than
supplied so far. That'd be real real useful.

I'm beginning to think I should just rip WMP out totally, and reinstall it
from scratch...

That *should* be a dead end. WMP should usually have its own state managed
pretty well, but it depends on a lot of things, and those are much easier to
corrupt than it is to corrupt the core WMP system.

I tried to run WMP11, and checked for any events at the same time...only the
application popup event registered.

Under "event properties" it says:

Date: 10/25/07 Source: Application Popup
Time: 10:50:01 AM Category: None
Type: Information Event ID: 26
User: n/a
Computer: LT0543

Description: Application popup: Windows media Player: wmplayer.exe -
application Error : The instruction at "0x0f302089" referencd memory at
"0x00000000". The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate....
Click on CANCEL to debug....

I did go to the http link, and it indicated I should reinstall the offending
program. Having already tried and failed at that (by rolling back to WMP10,
and then back "up" to WMP11), I'm inclined to agree with your advice
regarding ripping WMP out altogether.

There is no bucket number; or perhaps I'm looking in the worng place for that?

I recall back in the day...on my old ATT 6312 WGS machine in 88'...that I
could actually go and look at the memory allocation in a hex viewer, and see
what things were utilizing which memory areas. It was quite simple on such a
state of the art doorstop...but I cannot seem to do the same thing on my 2006
laptop. Has this ability been excised from the Windows OS? And, as it's
been nearly 2 decades, I'm not sure it would help.

I did research "Event ID:26", and found various references to it online; but
not in relation to WMP11 (at least not on any sites I can see. Google's
first hit was a reference on your website, but again, I can't get there from
here.)

I'm at a loss, and my office is boring w/o being able to crank Megadeth. Me
thinks I will by a cd player.
