Best: Ask the content provider to provide a non-corrupt version.

Alternative:
A: Check what file extension the file is.
B: Go to your favorite search engine, enter "<fileextension> file editor" or
something like that.
C: Fix the file in that utility.

B and onwards are going to be extremely relative - my semi-expertise with
the player would add no value to you there. =)

editor for that type, that should fix the indexing, headers, everything

that might be corrupt.

Converting it to any other file type would also work, but conversion
programs may not like the corrupt file.

This likely couldn't be fixed by tweaking WMP, since it's not a
problem
with
your install but with the file. Even if it's a codec issue, it would
be
done in the DirectShow decoder, which WMP won't reinstall. So
regardless
of
all else, that's probably a dead end there. =)

DIVX and other players typically play faster and looser with files
than
WMP
should. WMP is used by a bazillion users, and playing
incomplete/corrupt
files could potentially compromise all those people. It's an
interesting
decision either way. This is just the way WMP works. =)

After a quick look several are *.mpg files. Most were simply
downloaded
from
various locations. All of them play on a DIVX player and DO include
the
sound
which many of these aren't playing on the player. I uninstalled WMP
and
then
redownloaded it in an attempt to fix any issues there but no change.

I have several videos that do not display a "fast forward cursor".
