Thanks you're helping immensely. I seem to remember someone saying that I
simply had to "Index" the file. I don't remember how that was done. I was
able to fix one file but it to a huge length of time by converting a file to
another (perhaps) *.avi?) type of file. I suppose I could just use the DIVX
player but it's no where near as handly as the WMP.

by running them through a file editor for that type, which will usually
salvage the remains of the file.

This likely couldn't be fixed by tweaking WMP, since it's not a problem with
your install but with the file. Even if it's a codec issue, it would be
done in the DirectShow decoder, which WMP won't reinstall. So regardless of
all else, that's probably a dead end there. =)

DIVX and other players typically play faster and looser with files than WMP
should. WMP is used by a bazillion users, and playing incomplete/corrupt
files could potentially compromise all those people. It's an interesting
decision either way. This is just the way WMP works. =)

After a quick look several are *.mpg files. Most were simply downloaded

various locations. All of them play on a DIVX player and DO include the
sound
which many of these aren't playing on the player. I uninstalled WMP and

redownloaded it in an attempt to fix any issues there but no change.

I have several videos that do not display a "fast forward cursor". If I
attempt to move the area where the fast forward slider is or to click
at
some
point along the play track, the video restarts. I'd rather not convert
every
file that does that to one that will play. Is there an easier/quicker
way
