Re: Zen Vision:M isn't recognized in WMP 11

I have the same problem, with Vista Home Premium. My Zen Vision:M worked fine
with WMP11 for a long time, but recently it is not recognized (nor in "Sync
Center") but it IS recognized by other apps like Yahoo Music Jukebox. I tried
the regsvr32 commands you listed in a Command Prompt window opened as an
administrator, and all of them worked except MsPMSP.dll and MsPMSNSv.dll. But
it didn't fix the problem.
When I plug in the Zen Vision:M WMP11 briefly says it detected it, in green
text in the bottom right area, but it doesn't actually show up after that. I
have also sometimes found that WMP11 won't even start recently.
You mentioned some other things to try, but they never made it onto this
thread so far. I'd very much appreciate any help you (or anyone else) can
offer.
Thanks!

Sorry for the late response, I was away on vacation..
Did you copy the exact text from my post (repasted here for convenience)?

See the beginning part that says "%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s" in each
line? That part is critical. Please try copying the entire text between the
lines of equal signs "==" and pasting that into the "test.bat" file Neil gave
you instructions on creating.
Leave the equals signs lines out of the bat file.
Then double click the bat file to execute it.

I reinstalled everything from the CD and tried to run it again. Same deal.
It pops up "You are atempting to open a file of type 'Application Extension'
(.dll)
These files are used by operating system and by various programs. Editing
or modifying them could damage your system.
If you still want to open th efile, click Open With, otherwise, click Cancel."
So i click Open With, but nothing will open/run the file. Notepad opens it,
but it's a bunch of crazy code

OK that file is a device driver which seems to be missing. You should
try to install device drivers from the provided CD (device drivers for
windows XP are different than firmware, which goes on the device
itself)
Another suggestion is to ensure the service Windows Driver Foundation
is running and set to automatic startup. To do that, go to Control
Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Scroll down the list till you
find that and ensure Windows Driver Foundation and Plug and Play
services are both senabled, started, and set to automatic startup

I did all that, but when i tried to run it, i got the message back "Windows------------------------------------------------
cannot open this file: PortableDeviceClassExtension.dll" What can i open it
with? Thanx

He meant the following steps :
Copy and paste the lines from his initial message (not this one, which
has > symbols in front of the lines). You only need to copy the
specific lines which start with %windir%
Then paste those into notepad.
Choose Save As in notepad, and save the file as "files of type : *.*"
then type in a filename ending in .bat (short for batch file) eg save
as C:\Temp\test.bat
Now go to the C:\Temp folder in windows explorer, and double click on
the batch file to run the commands it contains (which you pasted in)

thanks for the effort.

Hi,
Okay, so I just got an email back from a guy who's done some newsgroup
stuff for other customers with similar issues and he said he's generally had
luck resolving this issue by using the "shotgun" approach.
First he suggests re-registering the following DLLs using these command
lines in a CMD box (save the lines to a single batch file and run it for
simplicity):
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\Audiodev.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\wpdshext.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\WPDShServiceObj.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\MSWMDM.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\MsPMSP.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\WMDMPS.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\WMDMLOG.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\cewmdm.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\MsPMSNSv.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\wpdconns.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\wpdsp.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\WpdMtp.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\WpdMtpUS.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\PortableDeviceTypes.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s
%windir%\system32\PortableDeviceClassExtension.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\PortableDeviceApi.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\PortableDeviceWMDRM.dll
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /s %windir%\system32\PortableDeviceWiaCompat.dll
Now try using your device, is it recognized? There's another thing he
suggests doing but he said to do it in steps. Also please let me know if
this works for you.
